Vintage
Wine on the Web, A Great Way to Find Fabulous Wine Values
Vintage
wine is a wine produced from grapes grown in a single year. Certain
years bear a superior product, earning a reputation among collectors.
As these vintages mature, they become even more valuable. More
often than not, the most popular vintages command much higher
prices. Thankfully,
the online wine shop can provide a source for these popular wines,
and smart shopping can turn up some incredible bargains.
A
popular vintage, the 1982 Chateau LArrosee was listed at
a local wine store for just over $200. When searched from our
computer, the same bottle was found to be offered by multiple
online stores for around $150. A little more shopping found an
online wine auction, where this magnificent bottle of wine sold
for $85. Try asking the guy behind the counter to take $115 off
the sticker price.
Stumbling
across half-priced wine can certainly pique anyones
curiosity, so we decided to see what other wine values we could
find. I had often read about Domaine De La Romanee Conti, a well
known Chardonnay from France. One of the more popular vintages
was 1996, which usually lists for
around $3000. It didnt take long to find a bottle for $1750.
Soon, we happened across a site where collectors sold their personal
stashes online. One bottle was listed for $750. The lowest was
only $550, a phenomenal saving for minimal work.
There
are plenty of other bargains if youre willing to search
for them. A bottle of 1990 Penfolds Grange typically sells for
$900 or more. By looking through the catalogs of several online
wine stores, I was able to locate a few bottles for just shy of
$700. Earlier experiences had us convinced that we could do better,
so we kept digging. Within twenty minutes, we had found a pristine
bottle for the unbelievably low price of $370.
Sure,
the cost of shipping must be added when making an online wine
purchase. However, when the savings are in the hundreds, or even
thousands of dollars, the shipping charges just dont seem
like a problem. As the internet has proven in so many other industries,
competition makes for lower prices. When all of the competitors
are at your fingertips, you cant help but save.
